The Kadinjača Memorial Complex is dedicated to the soldiers of the Workers Battalion, the Posavina and Orašan people, who died on the Kadinjača hill, 14 km west of Užice, on November 29, 1941. The Battle of Kadinjača was an important victory for the Yugoslav Partisans against the occupiers and helped raise morale and resistance, and contributed to the final liberation of Yugoslavia from Nazi occupation.
In honor of the fallen defenders of Kadinjača, on the 11th anniversary of the battle, on November 29, 1952, a monument-pyramid was unveiled, under which is an ossuary containing the remains of most of the soldiers who died at Kadinjača.
The monument was designed by architect Stevan Živanović in the form of a four-sided pyramid 11 meters high, with a five-pointed star at the top. The pyramid is engraved with verses from the poem “Kadinjača” by the poet Slavko Vukosavljević. Over time, Kadinjača became one of the symbols of the anti-fascist struggle. For this reason, an initiative was launched for the final arrangement of Kadinjača and the memorial complex. The development of the conceptual design was entrusted to academic sculptor Miodrag Živković, professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, and graduate architectural engineer Aleksandar Đokić. The construction of the memorial complex was carried out in the period 1977 – 1979.
The Kadinjača Memorial Complex is a cultural monument of exceptional importance and an important symbol of Yugoslav and Serbian history.
The Kadinjača Monument stands as a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifices of those who fought against fascism during World War II.
